Ruby Red - Friday sketchers

Another red card, perhaps more burgundy than ruby? This time I have used the Friday Sketchers #105 for inspiration and used Clare Curd's 'Big one' papers and shopping stamp which I paper-pieced: There are 4 layers hiding there (arm on bag on trousers on base).

I'll be back later with a non-red card :)

Sarah Kay card

I don't usually combine challenges but as soon as I saw today's Friday Sketchers layout #93 the others fell in to place: My card also fits the bill for the Stamp with Fun Spring theme, A Spoon Full of Sugar challenge to use something recycled (the raffia on the card is from some flowers I was given this week - thanks Karine!) and yesterday's PaperPlay challenge 'Seeing double' as there are the 2 panels on the card. Used: Sarah Kay image with water-colour pencils, Spellbinders 'Curved Rectangles' in the Cuttlebug, PaperMania printed papers, ColorBox 'amber clay' chalk ink edging the papers and card, flowers from Prima and Making Memories, and brads.

Pepper & Friends

Here's my Friday Sketchers card, following a great sketch by Jacqueline, and it's my first card using the new Pepper & Friends range by Dovecraft which I love!

Used: Bazzill swiss-dot 'Berry Pretty' with Pepper & Friends 8x8 paper, 12x12 double-sided paper and 'Bathtime' stamp which I coloured with Whispers markers before adding Glamour Dust. Sentiment stamp by Compagnie des elfes, VersaMagic plum ink, rest from stash.

Friday Sketchers

Here's a card using the Friday Sketchers layout by Beatrice. It's a great sketch and one I think I will revisit. It's quite simple so suits me well! Having said that, I often prefer to leave cards without a sentiment and haven't included one here.I have used the owl from the Inkadinkado 'Birds Galore' pack with ColorBox chalk ink, layered on Bazill card; PaperMania 'Secret Garden' papers; Cuttlebug 'Spring Leaf' dies; Making Memories and Prima flowers. It doesn't show in the photo but I've also used a transparent Sakura Glaze pen on the eyes, white dots of the owl's body and it's feet to give it a bit more 'pop'.

A non-image card

After being ill, having my step-daughter, her husband and the baby - so cute!- to stay for a few days, then being ill again, then losing the internet for a day and a half (!) I finally get to post something !

I made this on Tuesday for my Sister-in-law using the Friday Sketchers layout and just used the text in place of an image.
Supplies: Basic Grey 'Sugared' set for the roses background, plain sheets and alphabet and the other paper is from PaperMania Jesse Edwards collection; Inked edges with Versa-Magic Spanish Olive; Prima flowers with PM pearly brads; ribbon and charm from stash.

Happy 90th Birthday

I have never had the pleasure of celebrating someone's 90th birthday before but I gave this to one of our neighbours' this morning and he loved it.He is an absolute gem: Living alone but with regular visitors, he still reads the paper, does the crossword and number puzzles every day, still does the gardening. He said he would take it easier today because he overdid the lawn-mowing yesterday! He was a war hero too: Saved a German boy from drowning in a river when he was working fields there as a prisoner of war, which helped get him released back to France. He then used the German he had learned to save 7 local men here from being shot by a German officer by reasoning that none of them were the man he was looking for. The world needs more like this man! The cockrel and police badges have significance for him so formed the embellishments to the main image.

Not a 'usual' Friday Sketchers card but I used the current sketch for this one, just using a rectangle instead of an oval for the main image.
Used: Papermania Venetian Blue papers plus others from stash, Cuttlebug Slider and Harmony alphabet die-cuts, Anita's gems.

Friday Sketchers & Kimmie's challenge #6

I have thoroughly enjoyed doing Kimmie's challenges this week and combined the last one - to make a card with a boy or girl plus flowers - with the Friday Sketchers layout #38
I coloured Tilda with Whispers pens and used 'icicle' Twinkling H2O to add sparkle to the daisies and used the Nestabilities classic and scalloped circles to cut the mats. I used the middle frame from the Spellbinders Frameabilities that I cut the other day for the right-hand mat, embossed with the Cuttlebug, and used the centre bit from the frame for the sentiment tab at the bottom (nothing gets wasted!). The French-looking script is actually W H Smith (a very British chain of newsagents in the UK) rub-on lettering! Don't know about the other paper and card but the daisy paper is from PaperMania Creative Tones Olivine Essence pack.
Inside I just used ordinary printer paper and punched a flower in the bottom corner, inked this with Colorbox fluid chalk Iced Jade direct to paper and dabbed my paintbrush into yellow Brilliance and painted on a hint of that too, added a tiny Prima and a dab of 3D pearl paint. I stuck this back down, turned so that the punched hole also shows through.

Purple & Green Christmas

I've managed to cover 3 challenges with one card again! Seeing 2 ribbons together made me determined to use them for the 'purple and green' Whiff of Joy challenge and I really wanted to get my new stamp inked so this is first use of that! I have also included my favourite Cuttlebug embossing folder, which was the point of the Cuttlebug challenge blog this week and I followed the Friday Sketchers layout turned on its side.Voici ma carte pour le challenge Whiff of Joy. Le thème est les couleurs mauve et vert. J'ai utilisé le WoJ tampon Charlotte avec son traîneau. Cette semaine chez Friday Sketchers, il fallait réaliser une carte selon le sketch de Mumur. Egalement le blog de Cuttlebug Challenge demande nous utilisons nos classeur de gaufrage favorite: J'ai utilisé 'Divine Swirls'.
Used: Pollen blackcurrant paper stamped with Brilliance platinum, Papermania patterned paper, Cuttlebug 'Divine Swirls' embossed on pearlescent purple paper, Whiff of Joy Charlotte with Sleigh painted with H2Os, Anita's patterned ribbon, La Compagnie des elfes sentiment with Brilliance silver, Papermania brad and, finally, silver ribbon saved from a Christmas cracker!!!

Granddaughter's Baby Girl card

I followed the sketch from challenge 34 of Friday Sketchers for this card and was really pleased with it but I could scream at how bad the photos have come out and the card has already gone in the post. This photo is the best I could get of how the card looks yet the colours are still all wrong. The card is so tactile too: The soft cotton baby grow and fluffy duck, etc. It is for my step-daughter and her husband who had our first grandchild yesterday. It wasn't the birth one would hope for with an emergency cesarean and the baby whisked off to a special unit after swallowing fluid but all are doing well. I personalised the inside of the card by printing the insert with my own paper design and including the baby's names, date of birth and weight.

Friday Sketchers #32

I get to join in with a challenge: hoorah !
This card follows the Friday Sketchers layout with a Penny Black stamp coloured with H2Os and using a felt and paper flower with button from Making Memories Blossoms & Buttons: 'Lemonade' with some silver thread. The image was shaped with my new Nestabilities rounded rectangles. Love them! Yes, I know they were supposed to be for Christmas but....

Friday Sketchers 30

The sketch this week's Friday Sketchers is deliberately simple and Carole has invited people to add text and embellishments as wished. I've kept it simple and hopefully let the embossing, Cuttlebug Winter House, steal the show. I've discovered a Cuttlebug Challenge blog too. As I can't use Provocraft's designs for cards I sell via shops, I don't use the bug as often as I might but love it this time of the year for personal use and selling direct. With so many Christmas markets coming up (and I've turned down several !) I've got to keep cards relatively quick at the moment. Big thanks for your comments: They are very cheering among the rainy weather. I shall be blogging more when I can grab some time.Used: glittered dotty vellum, patterned silver card, navy card, and holographic glitter on the shiny blue embossed image.

Daring Cardmakers & Friday Sketchers

3 posts in 1 day! I'm exhausted! Friday's Daring Cardmakers challenge was to make a card featuring bird(s) and I followed Friday Sketchers' layout #28, provided by Mumur, to create this. I kept the background plain as there are lots of layers and details on the sketch so I didn't want to overload the card. The stamp is a large one so this is an A5 card. At least that gave me plenty of space to work with. I'm just not happy now about the raffia now: Might have to change that.
Main image coloured with H2Os; bird peel-off coloured with markers, mounted on card and coloured with Distress Inks; other inking round edges and sentiment is Brilliance Cosmic Copper.

Friday Sketchers #21

Here's a quick card using the Friday Sketchers layout but flipped upside down. I've also substituted the stamped flower swirl for the text. Most of my cards are sold at some point and most people seem to prefer them blank for any occasion or sometimes I add text later.

Friday Sketchers #19

I must try to do challenges as they are set not the night before they expire! As the title says, this is my card for Friday Sketchers 19...a water-coloured Magnolia with Funky Fairy 'Shabby Chic' papers, primas and brads. (will try to remember to re-do photo in daylight: Colours DO match, honest! !)

Kaboodle Doodle & Friday Sketchers

I've combined the great sketch #18 on Friday sketchers with the Kaboodle Doodle challenge #2 of 'Feeling Spotty' on this card. Andrea at Kaboodle Doodle was kind enough to give everyone who entered last week's challenge a free download so I chose 'Berry Blossom Bright' and have used that for this week's card. Thanks Andrea! Unfortunately the flash has made too much of the bling and the white space: Better in the flesh I think!
