Family - Page Mixed-media

I decided that, instead of just admiring the inspiration on the PaperArtsy blog, I would start joining in with the challenges. The first one for this year is 'fragile papers' so, taking some inspiration from Finnabair for the general layout, I gathered supplies. Inspired by the challenge post, my fragile papers include book pages, waxed paper that had already been used in helping die-cuts to exit the dies, scraps of punched papers, tissue paper and a doily. And, just because I am a ribbon junkie, I gathered lots of those too. The photo is of my grandmother with my aunt and uncle.
To assemble the page, I spread texture paste through a stencil (Crafter's Workshop) on to my base page (Tim Holtz), stuck down some first layers of paper and then mixed PaperArtsy Fresco Paint with water in a mini mister and sprayed over the page in a vague diagonal.

Inspired by Helen's post, I stamped and die-cut a flower from the tissue paper using PaperArtsy HPXT02 and matching die Grunge Flowers #2.

When the paint was dry I flicked slightly diluted Inzink Amethyst across the page, coloured the tissue paper flower with the same and painted it neat on some little butterflies to give them a lovely pearly shine. I then started sticking down the fragile papers and ribbons around where my photo would be placed. I then created a 'shadow' under the photo with a purple Portfolio Crayon. I stuck some book paper on to black card and sponged Dusty Concord Distress Ink over it before die-cutting (Sizzix Tim Holtz Vintage Market) and edging with more ink for my title and I finished by adding some extra flowers.

  1. Wow, Karen -- you are very clever! That's just gorgeous. I hope you've sent a copy to Leandra! If you don't, I will!!! Are you going to frame it now and hang it on the wall? It is so beautiful that it's a shame not to be able to look at it on a daily basis.
Thanks for showing us -- bises, Sally xo
