Vintage album 'Souvenirs'

I'm back today to share parts of an album that I taught in half-day workshops last year using KaiserCraft's 'In the Attic' collection. I used it to gather the photos of my mother from a child up until she married and gave it to my sister so that she had a copy of these photos. The album measures 18 x 22cm and has lots of different sized pages as well as tags, pockets and flaps.
Family - Page Mixed-media

I decided that, instead of just admiring the inspiration on the PaperArtsy blog, I would start joining in with the challenges. The first one for this year is 'fragile papers' so, taking some inspiration from Finnabair for the general layout, I gathered supplies. Inspired by the challenge post, my fragile papers include book pages, waxed paper that had already been used in helping die-cuts to exit the dies, scraps of punched papers, tissue paper and a doily. And, just because I am a ribbon junkie, I gathered lots of those too. The photo is of my grandmother with my aunt and uncle.
To assemble the page, I spread texture paste through a stencil (Crafter's Workshop) on to my base page (Tim Holtz), stuck down some first layers of paper and then mixed PaperArtsy Fresco Paint with water in a mini mister and sprayed over the page in a vague diagonal.

Inspired by Helen's post, I stamped and die-cut a flower from the tissue paper using PaperArtsy HPXT02 and matching die Grunge Flowers #2.

When the paint was dry I flicked slightly diluted Inzink Amethyst across the page, coloured the tissue paper flower with the same and painted it neat on some little butterflies to give them a lovely pearly shine. I then started sticking down the fragile papers and ribbons around where my photo would be placed. I then created a 'shadow' under the photo with a purple Portfolio Crayon. I stuck some book paper on to black card and sponged Dusty Concord Distress Ink over it before die-cutting (Sizzix Tim Holtz Vintage Market) and edging with more ink for my title and I finished by adding some extra flowers.

Winter / Hiver Tag #3

This tag was inspired by a card Tim holtz created which he shared on his blog with a tutorial. For my tag I started with a manilla tag which, as I was kitting these for the workshops, was firstly embossed with the 'Beaded Garland' embossing folder. I love this folder and think both folders in that set could be used at any time of the year. The tag was coloured with Iced Spruce, Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans Distress Inks and edged and stamped with the darker Chipped Sapphire. The snowflake is vellum, cut and embossed with Tim Holtz Sizzix Layered Snowflake set and, with the tag, misted with Perfect Pearls to give a beautiful icy effect. The vellum also crinkles up which I like and it can be uncurled and shaped when dry. The embossing and edges of the tag are highlighted with Pearl Adirondack Dabber. I didn't worry if some paint went on either side of the embossing: It gives a sense of movement to the garland! 'Winter' and the little snowflake are cut from white card (Tim's Sizzix Holiday words script and Die-namics 'Let It Snow' set) and the blue card (Tim's Nostalgia kraft core pad) is cut with Tim's Sizzix Holiday words block die set. Finally the metal button was highlighted with Silver Adirondack Dabber before assembling everything together. This was one of the favourite tags of the 6 I taught this year and I really love it too.

Winter / Hiver Tags #2

Happy New Year! My resolution of posting here more often as already fallen short but I'm not complaining: I've been very busy in the shop! Following my last post about the first tag workshops, here is a little more detail of tag 2:

This is a Ranger Kraft tag. I spread Picket Fence Distress Stain to the central part and, when dry, I used Cut'n'Dry to sponge Tarnished Brass Distress Stain through a Tim Holtz 'Clockworks' Layering Stencil: It has a beautiful gold shimmer when the light catches it. The ribbon was used to mop up so that it is also coloured to match! The clock, die cut from chipboard with the Sizzix 'Weathered Clock' die and covered with Tarnished Brass Distress Crackle Paint, also has a beautiful shimmer and, once dry, had Walnut Stain Distress Ink worked in to the cracks. The tag is stamped with Tim Holtz stamps and embellished with a ticket (Sizzix die) stamped with the multi-colour technique (Tim Holtz 'Odds and Ends' stamp set with 3 Distress Ink markers and edged with Walnut Stain DI). For the flourish at the bottom, I coloured some book paper with Antique Linen DI, die cut and sanded some Distress color-core card with the Holiday Greens dies and coloured an acrylic flower and a bead with Watermelon Alcohol Ink and stuck them in place with Tacky Glue. The silver crown at the top is coloured with Walnut Stain Distress Paint and Silver Adirondack Dabber to give it an aged appearance and match it to the rest of the tag.
