Less traditional colours for this Tim Holtz stamp 'Carved Christmas' and background of blended Distress Oxide Inks! No heavy layers for posting overseas: Just a blended background and multi-colour stamping. Hopefully it has arrived safely by now.

Winter & Christmas Tags - Tags d'hiver & Noël #2

Hello! I'm back today to share the three tags from my December workshop following on from the November ones shown here. These are made using lots of Tim Holtz products as I've been offering these tag workshops since the days when Tim was making his 12 tags of Christmas each year. He has since stopped but I am grateful to still have demand to continue.

Bonjour.

They required lots of kitting, lots of supplies and a whole heap of techniques.

Both groups enjoyed making them and I had two lovely afternoons in their company. So I'll leave you with a photo of a few of them in the middle of their creations.

Three more Tim Holtz style tags

Hi. I'm back today with the other three tags that I created for workshops in December. The first 3 are shown here.
Coucou.
The first manilla tag has a background of Distress Inks through Layering Stencils with Holiday Scribbles and Text and Vintage Lace die-cuts. The decoration is idea-ology trimming and gumdrop plus Distress Ink coloured ribbon and the stars of the show are the Crazy Birds, stamped first on Manilla card then on glossy paper along with the Accessory hat stamp. The manilla card was coloured with Distress ink and blending foam before the birds were cut out. Only the eyes and beak were used from the glossy card and coloured with Distress markers before being cut out and stuck on with 3D foam.

The second tag is embossed and has Distress Paint and Inks on the base, stamped with Distress and Archival inks. The die-cut Evergreen Tree is coloured with Distress Inks, Distress Glitter and white paint. The Mirrored Star is coloured with Alcohol Ink and the ribbon with Distress Stain.
The third tag is stamped with Distress Paint and coloured with Distress Inks. The Distress cardstock is embossed, sanded and then edged with Distress Paint. The 'Typed Token' is also coloured with Distress Paint. The die-cut Noel is heat-embossed three times with bronze UTEE before having a stamp pressed in to it to give it the texture. The tag is finished with die-cut greenery and quilled 'Tattered' flowers.

Winter Tags: Tim Holtz style

While we were without the internet last November and December, I had the annual ‘Tim tags’ workshops where the groups make three tags that I created in Tim Holtz’s style: That’s to say using techniques that I've learnt directly from him at Ranger U or on-line and using his stamps, inks, dies, idea-ology, etc. Here are the tags from the first weekend of workshops. I’ll return with the second set of three in another post.

The first tag is full of texture with different papers, wax, metal, foil, fabric... The manilla tag was inked and then embossed using Tim's Holly Leaves stencil; the little paper piece cut from the Seasonal block is attached with an Idea-ology mini paper clip; the candle is cut from manilla paper using the Candlelight die, inked, waxed and polished; the canvas is cut with the Poinsettia die and inked with Distress Inks and finished with a brad and bead spacer; the greenery is cut from Distress paper and sanded; the ribbon is coloured with Scattered Straw Distress Ink and a snowflake charm added.

This kraft tag was cut with the Holiday knits dies which were also used to create a stencil for the white paint on the chipboard cut with the Ornament die. The tag is brayered with a thin layer of white paint and then wood-stamped with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to give extra texture between the paint. Distress and kraft-core cardstock is die-cut with the Pinecone, Holiday greenery and script dies. Idea-ology string is added to a wood button and a word token hangs of the inked ribbon.

To evoke the sound of the sleigh bells as the reindeer pass overhead: A manila tag inked with blue tones of Distress Ink and stamped using the Christmas Nostalgia set in Chipped Sapphire Distress and black Archival ink. The die-cuts from 'Christmas Bells' and 'Townscape' dies are decorated with an idea-ology mirrored star, Stickles glitter glue, mirrored card, and wire 'smoke' and a little jingle bell is hung from the ribbon.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you like these tags: I'll be back soon with the other 3 which are all different again.

Winter 'Tim' tags

Before winter leaves us, I thought it time that I shared my winter tags inspired by Tim Holtz's December tags (yes, just 3 months behind!!!):
I used the same technique of inking the tags and ribbons with a mix of Distress Stains - Fired Brick and Tarnished Brass on the first one; Broken China and Brushed Pewter on the second. I used the same general layout as Tim showed on his tags and added stamping to the backgrounds and different dies as the main features on the tags. I was particularly excited to use the Snowflake Rosette die with foil on card to create the centre piece for the blue card: Love it!
Materials: Both tags: Ranger Manila tags #8, Tim Holtz stamps 'Mini Holidays 2'. Tag 1: Distress Stains Fired Brick & Tarnished Brass; Distress Inks: Forest Moss, Vintage Photo; Ink-blending toolAdirondack dabber: Gold; Stickles Rock Candy;  Tim Holtz idea-ology Sanding grip, Journal Ticket & 'Melange' tissue paper; Tim Holtz Kraft Core cardstock; Tim Holtz Sizzix dies: Tattered Florals, Elegant flourishes, Vintage Market alphabet, Festive GreeneryTag 2: Distress Stains: Broken China & Brushed Pewter; Distress Inks: Broken China; Foil; Adirondack Dabber: Silver; Stickles: Crystal Ice; Tim Holtz idea-ology: Tissue tape, Tinsel, Tiny Attacher & Mirrored; Tim Holtz Sizzix dies: Word Play alphabet; Snowflake Rosette.
Matériels: Les deux étiquettes: Ranger Manila tags #8, Tim Holtz tampons 'Mini Holidays 2'Etiquette 1: Distress Stains Fired Brick & Tarnished Brass; L'encre Distress : Forest Moss, Vintage Photo; l'outil Ink-blending tool; peinture: Adirondack dabber: GoldStickles Rock Candy;  Tim Holtz idea-ology Sanding grip, Journal Ticket & 'Melange' papier soie; Tim Holtz Kraft Core cardstock; Tim Holtz Sizzix matrices: Tattered FloralsElegant flourishesVintage Market alphabetFestive GreeneryEtiquette 2: Distress Stains: Broken China & Brushed Pewter; L'encre Distress : Broken China; Alu auto-collant; peinture: Adirondack Dabber: SilverStickles: Crystal Ice; Tim Holtz idea-ology: Tissue tape, guirlande, agrafeuse: Tiny Attacher & Mirrored; Tim Holtz Sizzix matrices: Word Play alphabet; Snowflake Rosette.

I also had 3 different groups making these with me where I was happy to explain the techniques in French. Many of them made tags with me last year so I asked what they did with them: No-one gave them away as cards or tags - They all kept them and were pleased to add to their collection!

This is how I displayed mine this year: A photo hanging system from IKEA where you cut the cord to the length wanted and use clips to create the display: Easy to change with the seasons. Time for me to catch up the Tim Holtz tags of 2013!

'Tim Tags' #4 - Tags, techniques and more!

Happy New Year! Bonne année!
Here are the last of the tags, following the tags of Tim Holtz, that I created at the end of last year: Tags 7, 8 and a mix of 9 & 12. These formed the basis of a second workshop to share the techniques and materials created and shared originally by Tim and others.

I love Tim's tag for day 7 using his 'kraft glassine' paper and alcohol inks: Here is my version with hand-cut holly leaves and pieces cut using Tim's 'Elegant Flourishes' die underneath:

My version of Tim's tag 8 is less 'Steampunk' than his and includes for the ticket a technique using Cut'n'dry felt that Tim shared last year and again on Tag 3 this year.

The third tag shown here takes inspiration from Tim's tag #12 for the background and tag #9's background 'double embossed technique' for my bauble.

There are explanations of the techniques on Tim's blog and also extra examples to check out such as his pocket watches included under tag #8. I fell in love with those so here is my version that I have been wearing all over Christmas!

Materials used for the tags: manila tags, Distress Inks (various colours including the limited edition Winter 2011 colours); Tim Holtz stamps; Paint Dabber (gold, snow cap white, silver, copper) paper distresser tool; ribbon; Sizzix dies: Festive Greenery, Elegant Flourishes, Gadget Gears, Ornaments, Upon a Time and Vintage Lace; Alcohol inks (citrus, bottle, gold mixative, blending solution, watermelon); Tim Holtz kraft glassine paper;   Stampendous black embossing powder; Archival, Stazon and Versafine inks; Cosmic Shimmer silver mist; Hero Arts large flourish stamp; idea-ology sprocket gears and pen nibs; Cut'n'dry mousse and felt; plus charms, beads, lace and tinsel from my stash.
Materials for the pocket watch necklace: Tim Holtz idea-ology pocket watch, lace chain, pen nib, tissue tape and baubles and Tim Holtz Seasonal papers with some sticky gems and mica flakes.

'Tim tags' part #3 - Tags 5 & 6

OK, I'm on a roll now! I've actually finished tag 7 too but haven't got the light to photograph that one and I've got to prepare the studio table for tonight's scrap class!
So here are 2 rather unusual tags: #5 with its alcohol ink and plastic background has a rather clean & simple look. Tag 6 is metallic card, embossed, painted, sanded, inked and embossed with clear powder. You really need to go to Tim's blog to see the techniques explained - and his great tags of course - and you can believe him that you need to do the technique on tag 6 to see how good it is and that photos cannot do it justice!

Materials: both tags: Sizzix 'Tag and Bookplates' die; for tag 5:  Sizzix 'Festive greenery' die; adirondack alcohol inks: watermelon, terracotta, sunset orange; plastic packaging; white card, ribbon and pearls.

Materials for tag 6 acrylic paints: Metallic card from PaperArtsy; retired cuttlebug folder 'Lace Tree'; acrylic paints (PaperArtsy, Ranger Studio and DecoColor); Dovecraft brad and flower; ribbon.

'Tim tags' part #2

I'm back with the 3rd and 4th tag inspired by Tim Holtz. 8 tags behind as of today but ready to craft as soon as this post is finished...
For this tag I used Tim's Christmas background embossing folder and inked over the raised words with different colours of Distress before giving it a good coat of Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist. To get the different directions, I embossed the top part of the tag sideways then lined up the bottom half of the tag with the edge of the plates so it only embossed that bottom section and didn't put pressure on the part already embossed. After that, a little arrangement of leaves from the Sizzix Strip die 'Festive Greenery' with some red bling for the holly berries, ribbon coloured with frayed burlap and some twine with a bell and I was finished!

Tag 4 has a beautiful background, explained on Tim's blog, using Distress Stains (Picket Fence, Broken China, Weathered Wood) and stamped with Weathered Wood stain. I then embossed the tag with the snowflakes border that comes in the Christmas background and border Texture Fades set and run Pearl Dabber over it to highlight the texture. The snowman is grungeboard cut with the Winter Wonder die and then the 'Noel' movers and shaper die, painted white and then with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint and coloured with the Distress stains. I stuck a scrap of Lost and Found paper behind him, decorated him with ribbon, tulle and a bit of bling and then stuck him on the tag. The snowflake from the Winter Wonder die got the same paint, rock candy, Distress stains treatment and was then stuck (top right) on the tag. I added tulle to some buttons and stuck them down and then used tinsel, silver jute and a snowflake charm to decorate the top of the tag. Finally, I filled the spaces in the Noel with Glossy Accents and left it overnight to dry.
I used three further alternatives to tags 1,2 & 4 as the basis for workshops on Tuesday and Saturday where I introduced others to the wonders of Tim's products and techniques and they all left with their own versions of these tags:

Christmas mini-album - Noël 2009

Here's a look at the cover and first pages of my Christmas mini-album using We Are Memory Keepers double-sided 'Whiteout' cardstock with recycled tags from our presents, title die-cut with the Cuttlebug and all held together with the Bind-It-All. The tags inside now have photos or journalling on the reverse. For the first page I cut the holly shape before slotting the photo behind it and mounting it on the inside cover.

First post of 2010 - Christmas traditions

Oops, where did December go?! I made hundreds of cards to help raise money for the Téléthon charity and sent the least ever to my own family and friends just because I ran out of time. As many French send them for new year rather than Christmas, I am still getting them posted here. We spent Christmas in the UK so I was away for 10 days too!
So while I get back in to card-making, here are 2 pages I made in December: One recording the tree-decorating and one using the original printed photo from my pre-digital days of December 26th 2001: It has become a tradition to go for a morning walk and we did it again this year. I shall be back with a mini-album of my 2009 Christmas photos.
I hope you enjoyed the holidays and I wish you all the best for 2010.
Used: Tree page: Bazzill swiss embossed 'Clover Leaf', DCWV die-cut Holidays, Cuttlebug with 'For you' bauble combo & Harmony alphabet, Prima flowers and paper tree. Walk page: Card and paper scraps from stash, Cuttlebug 'Leaves' dies, Cosmic Shimmer sprays (also dragged with the removed nozzle!), Sakura stardust pen, VersaMark: Gingerbread.

Just Christmas ... Cards Sketch

I made this square card for 'Just Christmas and Birthday cards' fortnightly challenge sketch:
Une carte selon the sketch chez 'Just Christmas and Birthday cards':and then another similar but A5: et d'autre similaire avec format A5:Very quick and easy using Kanban's backing and die-cut sheets plus silver mirri board embossed with the Cuttlebug snowflakes folder 3D mounted on blue card inked with silver Brilliance and then white card.
JCBC are also having a DT call and I have sat on my hands since I read it: I have been on a DT before and know the commitment it demands but that was different... Sketches are what I love and Christmas and Birthday cards are what I do most: I know I can do it, just have to be organised... Here's my hat being thrown in... :)
So I need to show 2 favourite cards:I love what the DT do on JCBC, just hope now they feel my style will fit in alongside theirs!
